Taste: **** | Presentation: ****
This weeks cupcake was inspired by, none other than, American Thanksgiving! These chocolate heath bit cakes are nearly brownies, topped with a chocolate buttercream frosting and adorned with strategically placed candies (tootsie roll and candy corn) to resemble the most important part of Turkey Day...the turkey! (while eerily resembling the penguin from Wallace and Gromit.)
The panel: "Presentation was fun and well constructed". Good cake density, chocolate flavour and While addition of bits was appreciated, there were requests for a little more toffee. "Smooth" and "silky" frosting was the star.
EatFreak: "I don't think the brownie and frosting flavours meshed well at all and I found it to be overly chocolate and sweet."
My comments: I'd try providing more support for the head decoration in the future (it was nonexistent here) by using toothpicks. Though it was a pleasant surprise, the cakes turned out more like a brownie than cake, moist dense cake surrounded by a delectable crust.
