Taste: ***1/2 | Presentation: ****
I was trying to come up with an idea idea on how to sum up summer in a cake, in anticipation of the beautiful weather to come and settled on watermelon. This week's treat is a chocolate chip cake with a hint of watermelon topped with vanilla frosting; all strategically coloured to resemble the inspiration.

The Panel:
Fun. There was a very clear divide on the panel this week with regards to the flavour of this creation. Judges seemed to either love or hate the combination of watermelon and chocolate chips, though they all appreciated the craftyness of the presentation. The initial reactions were generally a bit of a clash of flavors, developing from there for each of the indulgers. The vanilla frosting was well received overall. Colours were said to be perfect and the cake was light with a crisp outer finish and a tender, moist interior.
Giovanni: "I loved the cake the watermelon flavor was exact in replication and intensity."
Glameow: " Happiness in cupcake form."
SweetPea: "I love how actually "watermelon-y" it is."
My comments:
I was, as some of the judges were, also torn on this flavour combination, as watermelon is an odd flavour to find in a cake to begin with. I was extremely pleased with the presentation other than the fact that the frosting appeared to be separating somewhat. I am beginning to suspect that this may be a result of adding food colouring which further highlights the texture and potential impurities. Curious...
