Taste: **** | Presentation: ****
This week's cupcake was inspired by a 'Waffle Window' creation that I sampled while in Portland, Oregon (http://wafflewindow.com/). Among the items on their savory menu, this beauty stood out: a bacon, basil, brie waffle! And so, I present to you a vanilla cupcake sandwiching a slice of brie, topped with an apricot basil frosting covered in bacon!!! I'll deliver them at noon.

The panel:
There was a unanimous consent that this treat was an interesting, creative and daring one. While the flavours were all present, some were more prominent than others. The comments surrounding this cake were more suggestions for alterations to levels of flavour: more brie, more apricot, too much basil. There were a few comments concerning the fact that the sandwich style of this cupcake fell apart when handled and requests were made for crispier bacon.
Glameow: "Seriously amazing. You wouldn't think this would all work together right off, but the taste was so good - the perfect blend of sweet and savory...foodgasm."
JRock: "...overall kickass flavor profile."
Giovanni: "The basil frosting was amazeballs."
My comments:
I personally found the cakes to be on the dry side, though this may have been masked by layers higher in moisture content. The frosting, I will say, was amazing - I was so impressed by the success of basil in this dessert! And all of the flavours in this exotic cupcake creation for that matter. I agree with all of the suggestions made for improvement on this treat and look forward to implementing them in a future rendition.
