This week's cupcake is a twist on a classic, incorporating crunchy peanut butter and strawberry jam in a bread pudding style cake. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z3ZAGBL6UBA (<--couldn't help myself).
The flavour combination seemed to be well received overall (with the exception of SweetPea, whose childhood memories were created with grape jelly) but the texture had a wider variety of appreciation. The use of crunchy peanut butter, runny jelly and the bread pudding base worked well for some and less for others. Most commented on the surprise of jelly also in the center of the cake, carrying through the flavour presented visually. The bread pudding cakes were rather dense and, combined with the runny jelly, overly moist. Presentation got point for preparing the consumer for exactly what they were to expect.
Diana: "Smell is divine! The cake is like my mom/dad packed my school lunch with a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and the bread is a little soggy."
Glameow: "I could eat a dozen of these."
JRock: "When I ate it I felt like a 7 year old eating my lunch."
